Indiana Sweeps Wisconsin

The Indiana Fire Academy landed their first sweep of the 2013-14 season defeating FC Wisconsin in all three games.

IFA 18's win 4-0

With Playoffs on the top of each player's mind, every game remaining in the 2013-14 season is critical.  With a few starters out due to injuries and yellow card accumulations, IFA's top reserves proved how deep the roster is with their performances on the field.  The 1st goal came from Nolan Schloneger as he tallied his 3rd goal of the season in the 24th minute of play after finding a lose ball in the box.  Just before half, George Poppas collected his 1st goal of the season in the 39th minute from a service into the box.

As the 2nd half began, IFA came out with total possession, moving the ball around the park patiently until finding moments to break Wisconsin's defense down.  In the 50th minute, Bennett Kim was able to receive the ball in midfield and find Connor Corrigan making a diagonal run in behind Wisconsin's back line.  With time to bring the ball down and have a clean opportunity on goal, Corrigan instead chose to strike the ball 1st time from a full volley and caught the GK on his exit from 30 yards out.  Finally, in the 66th minute, substitute David Anderson scored his 1st goal of the season off a rebound to put IFA out of reach and secure the victory.

The 18's will host Vardar this Saturday at Grand Park, 12:30pm.

IFA 16's win 2-0

After two solid weeks of team building and a change in formation, the 16's took the field with the focus and determination to win!  The team defended as good as they have defended all year hosting their first shutout since October 20th, 2013.  Their ability to pressure the ball in critical areas, cover their buddy on almost every play forcing at least a 2v1 defensive startup, and down-pressure once their line was beat was as good as it comes.  On the flipside, the atacking mentality to possess the ball and penetrate in multiple ways over and over again proved to wear down the Wisconsin defense.  With only 15 minutes remaining, substitutes Ben Diatta and Alex Fundenberger were electric up top against a worn down Wisconsin back line.  Diatta was able to unbalance his defender on a few occasions right away, before providing a service in the box in the 70th minute which ended on Alex Fundenberger's head for the game-winning goal and Fundenberger's 2nd of the season. Minutes later in the 74th minute, Alex Fundenberger was able to run in beind the Wisconsin defense once more before being tripped up in the box reulting in a penalty kick.  From there, Justin Ingram stepped up and scored his 2nd goal of the season which proved to be the last of the match ending in 2-0.

The 16's will host Vardar this Saturday at Grand Park, 3:30pm.

IFA 14's win 2-1

The last game of the day began with a set peice goal from FC Wisconsin.  Jonathan Hernandez took advantage of a direct free kick from the top of the box making it 1-0 for Wisconsin.  Over the next 50 minutes, IFA dominated the match with possession and multiple chances on goal but were unable to capitaize.  Coach Schlake decided to push the game the last 15 minutes making a tactical change in formation from a 4-3-3 to a 3-5-2.  The added numbers to the attack encouraged Matthew Boberg to attack even more from the left flank as he was able to create multiple services off isolations high in the attack.  Finally, in the 71st minute, Boberg found the ball on the top of the box and finished his 3rd goal of the season.  Just two minutes later, Boberg once again dribbled his defender out wide and served the ball into the box finding Nigel Faulkens for the game-winning goal and his 4th of the season.

The 14's will host Vardar this Saturday at Grand Park, 12:30pm.
